I honestly considered giving up today. It is really hard to run. I started out okay, but I knew I was asking more of myself. Each day I run it will be a little further. Today, I only added one more interval yet I felt overwhelmed. I barely finished, completely out of breath and drained. With each pounding of my foot against the pavement I felt myself slow. I was certain I hadn't run nearly as fast as I had on Monday. I was a snail pushing myself slowly up an impossible hill. I arrived home feeling defeated, I was done and I had only started. Now before anyone gets to worried, I am NOT giving up. I simply felt that way. That, however, was before I looked at my times for the day. Are you ready for this? Here are my intervals for my 12 min. run/walk:
5:00 (warmup) | 16:30 | 1 |
1:00 (fast) | 11:27 | 1 |
1:00 (slow) | 15:48 | -1 |
1:00 (fast) | 12:12 | 0 |
1:00 (slow) | 16:43 | -1 |
1:00 (fast) | 11:44 | -1 |
1:00 (slow) | 16:42 | 0 |
1:00 (fast) | 14:11 | -1 |
1:00 (slow) | 20:57 | 1 |
1:00 (fast) | 11:03 | 2 |
1:00 (slow) | 16:47 | -0 |
1:00 (fast) | 14:14 | -0 |
1:00 (slow) | 17:14 | 2 |
5:00 (cooldown) | 19:51 | -2 |
I was SHOCKED! Three of my intervals were the best I had ever run. I was no snail. Notice the two intervals above 14? Both of those were when I was convinced I wasn't going to make it, that I wasn't cut out to be a runner. I love to see that when I really focus and think positively I can run pretty well. 11:03 just makes me grin. I know it's only one minute, but for that one minute I moved the fastest I had in my life. If I can just keep my head, all my intervals will be that fast. I LOVE it!
