That said, The hubs took this morning off to get some good rest before he had to go beat his brains out. This gave me the chance to go for my first ever early morning run. I have never been morning person, just ask my mom, but I just might be a morning runner. It was sooooo beautiful outside. The sun was already peeking up over the mountains as I head out the door at 6:30. No cars, no other runners, just me and the beginnings of spring popping up all around. Today's plan was a 30 minute workout with 4/1 run/walks. This is a new challenge for me so I was curious how it would go. I decided to take advantage of the extra energy I was feeling and push pretty hard. Lately I've been having one or two running intervals in the 14:00 pace range. Though that's not terrible, I really want to keep them all at or under 13:00.
I warmed at a very brisk pace, hitting my first 1/4 mile in less than four minutes, something that hasn't happened since my 5k. The first running interval wasn't bad. In fact, I felt pretty good for having run 4 minutes straight. The second was a bit harder and I began to wonder if I could keep it up. Then I hear my average pace, 13:30! WOW! Now, I include my warm up and cooldown in my time so I knew that it would slow with my walking, but wouldn't it be amazing to have my first average pace below 14 minutes? I kept going, pushing when I walked, running at a steady pace.
Finally the 30 minutes were up. Did I do it? Did I make my goal? Average Pace~13:59 Barely, but I DID IT! And I ran each one of the intervals with the extra minute! This are the days I need to remember. Not everyday can be a PR. If they were, it wouldn't mean anything. I just need to keep focusing on the positive and how far I've come.
This will be extra important as I begin my 10k training next week....EEEEEKKKK!! Next week? WOW. I registered for the Pink Series 10k. They finally posted the course map, it's really not bad, and in an area I'm familiar with. I was looking at it thinking, "I can totally do this, down canyon road, through the 'island' and....into River Heights? Up that hill? That thing scares my in my car and I'm going to run it? Oh boy."
Now, to some more experienced runners, it may not seem that bad. But I get winded on bumps in the road, let alone an actual hill. I'm not going to let it phase me. Even if I have to crawl up that half-mile, I will do it! Plus, I'm going to have friends there to push me, Though we won't be at the same pace, knowing they will be waiting for me at the end will help. Plus, I hope to have my
